Lexmark introduced the W850 monochrome laser printer in November 2009, with print speed OEM-rated at 50 pages per minute (ppm) and a duty cycle rating of up to 300,000 pages per month. A multifunction (MFP) version, the W850 MFP, had a duty cycle rating of only 150,000 pages per month.
Xerox offered its own MFP versions based on the same print engine (WorkCentre 5325, 5330 and 5335) with print speeds of 25, 30 and 35 ppm, respectively. Duty cycles for the Xerox models ranged from 100,000 to 150,000 pages per month.
The standard supplies set is made up of a toner cartridge and separate drum unit. Replacement toner cartridges yielding 30,000 (X850) and 35,000 (W850) page yields are available from Lexmark, and 30,000 pages from Xerox. OEM SKUs differ by geographic market, and cartridges require a chip for correct printer operation.
